Could someone please compare the 400 w/ 300 in terms of pickup speed. Same as 308 vs 408?

Ill bet. Thanks

Presume you're asking about Mitchell models here. By "pick up speed" I presume you mean gear ratio. The comparison between the 308 & 408 vs. the 300 & 400 reels is similar, but not the same. Gear ratio in the 308 is 4.5:1 while the blue high speed 408 has 5.5:1. In a common 300 the ratio is 3.5:1 while the blue high speed 400 has 5:1. Other differences that might affect 'pickup speed' on the high speed Mitchells include roller bearings at the crank & rotating head, roller line guide, & the longer handle.

Note that "pickup speed" depends on spool diameter as well as the gear ratio. The 308 & 408 probably have about the same spool diameter so it is OK to compare them based on gear ratio alone. The 308 and 300 have different spool diameters.
