Who wants to have a complete William Billinghurst collection? A friend gave me this article published in "The Civil War Times. Yikes, 52 cal, 175 shots per minute!! Patent No. is 36,448.
Yeah, who knew, but Google "Billinghurst Volley Gun" and you can see all kinds of things, including a dry firing of a replica Billinghurst!!
Do not underestimate the dedication of Civil War freaks, they are a dedicated group. My neighbor just purchased an original pardon of a prisoner from that era signed by Abe Lincoln for $12,000, way more than you would pay for a Billinghurst reel, right?
I'm sure I'll never own a Billinghurst-Requa gun, but thanks to Henry Caldwell I at least have an original .52 caliber cartridge (non-dug) that fit into one of the 25 barrels.

Which only leads me to wonder, where does Henry find these things?

Mike - more often than not, these things find Henry. As owner/operator of Black Bass Antiques, Henry has numerous customers that frequent his shop with items to sell, trade or have ID'd and/or appraised. If you didn't make the short trip to his shop while we were in Lake George for the 2012 ORCA Nationals, you really missed out. I may be a bit biased, but I'm not alone in thinking his shop is the best antique tackle shop in all of upstate NY - and perhaps all of New York state.

Jim- Thanks. I not only spent several hours in Henry’s antique store, but I also went home with a carload, including his previously “not for sale” 12-point white tail mount that now hangs in my cabin. Great, great place. Great, great guy.
Henry has found some of the best reels in my collection. Especially ball handle reels. He has another great mark s-handle reel awaiting for me at Pigeon Forge, TN in January. I agree that Henry is one of the best locators of great reels than any other collector that I know.
