2 1/16" Dia x 1 1/8" Wide plate to plate.

here's an export example sold in 1939 Allcocks (England) - they imported and sold a pretty good list of Bronson reels including salt and LW (4 pages in the catalog)

Hi Ron,

I thought so too at first but no, as I have that reel. The mystery spool diameter
is smaller and the gear is also smaller. Also, if you look at the diamond cutouts on the spool, the top and bottom are blunted, while on the catalog reel (and on the one in my hand), the top and bottom of each diamond come to a point.

I know this isn’t much help, but I’ve seen this reel very recently. Problem is, I don’t remember where... My best guess is Ebay but good luck trying to find it based on that. I do remember that I was surprised because at first glance it looks like the Bronson. I’ll come back if I remember where I saw it and let you know.

Found it, but probably still no help other than someone knows $50 seemed like a good deal.

It looks like a spool for a c. 1900 U.S. Net and Twine skeleton fly reel, as depicted on pg.73 of Richard Lodge's outstanding Skeleton's: A Collector's Guide to Raised Pillar Fly Reels. Richard may be around to confirm this.

definitely not the Shakespeare Kazoo - Kevin, I think you're on the right track.
The handle grasp (is it wooden?) also looks like Meisselbach

James ( spadej1) has it right. eBay has messed up links now. The link posted is the reel for my spool but when you click it, it rolls over to the Kazoo because the original auction has ended. If you click on view original item you get the proper auction (Vintage Antique Brass Skeleton Fly Reel Attention Collectors). Yes Ron, wood handle, tapered near the plate, screw on post.
