Jokar tournament reel from Mike N

Post by john elder »

Here is a little expose of the innards and workings of the Jokar tournament reel. They really put a lot of bells and whistles into this little fellow.... and i still have no idea how they managed to make a successful cast using line that i can’t see without my glasses and good light! Yeah, i’m old but this stuff is miniscule!

Here is the dissection and a link to a video is below:

Thanks, John. Another great job (and, I agree, I’ve never seen such fine casting line, either.)

The reel shown is one of a pair Jokar tournament casting reels I picked up at the Harpers Ferry ORCA National meet.

I had my eyes and fingers on one of those reels at Harpers, unfortunately for me, Mike took both of them. They fill an important gap in the unlimited distance category, being a custom reel made for many of the top casters at the time. I think there were probably 30 or more of these around, based on some references in the ACA publications and various other articles. This was probably one of the top 5 USA reels used during its time in the 50s-70s. International teams tended towards the more integrated reels and handles.

I have a standing order for one of these for my tournament collection.

Lol, Matt. I could feel you behind me breathing heavily so I knew I better pull the trigger and pay the man or there would be no second chance.
