mitchell reel

Post by al »

G,day,
My dad gave me an old fishing reel the other day, and I am trying to find out some info about it.It is a mitchell reel, model 387(nouveau mer)and is still in its box and never been used. There is a serial number on the bottom of the box;084742.
I have just come back from fishing in the Kimberley and Admiralty gulf in the top north of australia and plan to go back .
What I would like to know is weather I should use it or keep it in its original condition.
Hope to hear from you soon
Many thanks

:) 8) :!: :?:  cool-thumb USA Keep that reel if its new and never been used, you say you have the box and all paperwork? Your reel acording to Ben wrights book on spinning reels list it at $70.00 that one was made in 1969 and other listing is $75.00 made in 1978! again thats just for the reel so you box and other items may add up to a lot more! Hi Al,

Remembering that free advice is never worth more than it's cost...

Back in 1975 my father gave me a reel too, A Zebco (ABU) Cardinal 7 which was new at the time. Two decades (or so) later I was able to give it back to him still NIB. We don't sell reels in my family, but a bit of "horse tradin'" is always fun. I have certain reels for fishing and some that are definitely not. Any old reel still NIB will stay that way. I can always buy a new reel or find an older reel that's serviceable for fishing.

Regards,
Clinton
