Gunther,
As with many antiques condition plays a BIG part in determining value of reels... First of all does it look like the reel is brand new or does it look like your Dad had a good time fishing on many weekends.
If it looks brand new value in the dollar area are better, if it looks as though Dad enjoyed reeling in a few big ones then value is mostly sentimental on this reel.
In very good condition and maybe even with a box your typical Pflueger Interocean #1889 starts around the $50ish range. In less than perfect condition start taking deductions from the $50. (ie: dollars off for no box, scratches, rust, dings, missing parts, hard to work, etc.)... till you are down to what would be considered a "parts" reel—worth more for its sentimental value as something your Dad owned and enjoyed.
Maybe someone else can tell us if the Geo. Hunt & Co. information will add anything to the value or not.
Careful if you decide to clean up your find... go easy and don't add any scratches or rub off too much finish. The black should be bakelite that has a sort of glossy look and the most of the metal parts should be Nickle Silver (a nickle alloy with no true silver content) that should clean up nice.
Best of luck!
