Spincast defined

Post by clinton_beeler »

I was talking to father the other day and the Zebco "standard" model came up. Steve Vernon had pointed out that the spinnerhead and spool are a single unit and rotate during the cast. (odd since R.D. is known for fixed spool reels)

"I knew that" he said. "In fact that's where the term "spincast" comes from."

I didn't know that. I have a very early clear "salesman's sample" . It is all black inside so someone had painted a white line across the spool and a red line across the marble. I never could figure out why. Now I know.

I'm given to understand that there were three colors of spinnerhead/spool on the standard. Black, red, and tan and they came out in that order. Is that true? (does anybody know?)

Regards,
Clinton

:) :? 8)  :!: :?:  :type: cool-thumb USA Clinton , you are corect that the spoolIE. Line holder is fixed, it stays staionary with exception its designed to slip on a ratchet that works as a drag, The Spinning head has (OK PHIL) these are my words, PIN, or leaver or finger, there are different styles that is what takes the line in when reeling on the retive, that in turn makes the line go on the spool! that spinning head is the item that drops the pin, leaver or guide when you push the buton or on some shakesperes and south bends make a half turn backwards and the line pick up on the head drops away from the line so it can be gasted out with no interferance! Some ZEBCOS have a spinner head with many serations that pick up line on the retrive , and when you pus the buton to cast, the serated head is pushed away from the spool, so the line will cast out without snaging on the front head! Mr Hull weater on purpose or acidently made the reels to work like that! and agrat many other Companies have coppied and used that idea with slight modifications! AS for colors who knows! however the same idea is what makes it work, I just looked at a 888 and pro staf zebco I am working on, it uses a single pin, some reels use a double pin for faster start on the oic up! My thoughts on Color? If you remeber Henry Ford a the T-Model, he said You can have any color if its BLACK! well the REEL makers made several colors for two very good reasons, one, could identify a modle or type of reel , TWO if people saw different colors they bought more of the makers reels ! Now You have the rest of the Story! Your Ohio Conection On a very wet shore of Lake ERIE Col. M. Lorens aka SWIM JIG
