This is Daytona FATC week...

Post by Mike N »

Other than the ORCA Nationals, no other antique tackle show in the country has a greater offering and display of vintage reels than Daytona FATC. The hosts even give ORCA members a section together. I’ll try to keep the board posted starting Wednesday evening. I can’t wait to see everyone with their latest finds.

Like last year, I am going to ask for donations of reels for our Silent Auction at the Convention in September and also to sell on our ebay site. All donations are tax deductible.

Very worthy cause, Roger. I’m sure many of us ORCA members will help your baggage home get a little heavier.

As I posted on the announcements thread earlier, I ordered a few cedar display cases with green felt from Arthur Edwards in Georgia, artnkar@planters.net, who will bring them to you in Daytona, and then ship them to your home after the show.

That way all you have to do is bring your reels in a large carry-on piece of luggage. Art is a real craftsman. I asked him to make a few matching wedges to put under the cases to make viewing easier, and he did so for only $10.

Here are some photos Art just sent me.

Here are two incredibly rare Orvis reels from Terry Ow’s collection.

The only known Orvis multiplying reel (it’s so smooth).

And the Orvis first model with engraved foot:

Joe brought several vintage reel cases. This little beauty is likely British, because as Dean pointed out, the rounded bottom was common in the UK. I love the simple latch and the belt/suspender loop on the back.

ORCA President Ron Gast with some incredible Leonard reels. Plus, how about that glass minnow bait Ron bought this morning?

The venerable Tom Greene had several great Kentucky reels including this “00” (smaller than the catalog size “0”). Seen here also next to a No.1:

And then he had this rarity:

ORCA member Doug Whittington generously donated a rare 3/0 #400 Otto Zwarg reel with case to the ORCA benefit auction to be held in Frankfort. ORCA Treasurer Roger Schultz accepted the donation on behalf of the club.
