More Beetzsel...check your bearing caps
I was selling one of the DC models and someone noticed I had straight knurling on one bearing cap and spiral on the other. The straight one is a little bigger too. That someone also said they had a similar Redifor Beetzsel - the same combination of mismatched bearing caps. Then I checked my other Beetzsels and found three that had two straight matching knurled caps but two others - a Redifor and a DC - had this same mismatched set. I wonder if anyone else has mismatched bearing caps on their Beetzsel?

The straight knurled cap looks like a Shakespeare.

Dave, amazingly enough, they all seem to be that way. I have had 4 different ones and all had mixed caps.

I have 2 Beetzels. Both have mismatched end caps. Now here is where it gets interesting. The smaller one that has the diagonal ribbing screws onto just threads. The other one with straight ribbing screw onto threads that have the bendable teeth around them like most Shake reels. Now here is another ripple in the mystery. One of my reels has the small screw on the front and the larger one on the rear with the teeth. Now the other one is just the opposite with the small cap on the rear and the large one on the front with the teeth. One of the reels is Redifor, Warren Ohio and the other just says Beetzsel. Both have the same Patent dates.
As an added note, if anyone has a parts reel I need the small gear inside the reel that attaches to the worm gear

Collect mostly Ky style reels; Meek, Heddon, Horton, Pflueger Redifor and Worth, etc.

I assume the one that screws onto threads with the bendable teeth is for spool tension control, while the other serves just as a bearing cover?

If you mean side-to-side tension, then yes:the one that screws onto threads with the bendable teeth is for spool tension control
If you mean an antibacklash brake that slows the spool, Beetzsels had those patented "self-thumbers" inside.
