Old Wooden Pflueger Shipping Crate

Post by Cat.Tales »

Can anyone help me figure out about how old this shipping crate is. Pfluefer had no information. I made a top for it and am using it as a trunk on my 1931 Model A roadster.

Not sure if I got the pictures uploaded right but hope so.

Probably the 1930s, although not all that confident. The style suggests later rather than earlier (20s).
Looks to be in good condition. I made a table from one of those for my Pflueger items. Glass top, lined with green felt. Cool! Would send a picture but too lazy!

I can't help with dating, so please forgive me - I would have loved to have found that box, fallen off a truck on the side of the road - full. Not that old though, but was growing up in Ohio as a kid. Wonderful ephemera! I've never seen one before, so enjoyed you posting the photo.

Years ago, there were several people skeptical that all these boxes were authentic, as they started showing up with some frequency and all were in excellent condition like this one.

I was thinking the same thing.

I believe it is an original piece, but likely post WWII and likely never used. I have seen Pflueger boxes show up for the last 30 years, and have owned some in bad condition exactly the size of some of the better ones. The nail patterns and wood are exactly the same. I own the one shown here, as well as some box parts one of which I have hanging on the wall.

I wouldn't doubt that some of the boxes or box parts showed up in a warehouse unused and went on the market. I have seen at least five very good boxes, and over the years have seen dozens in worse shape, in all sizes and shapes. I have NOC Pflueger lures that are also minty even though they were produced back in the 40's and 50's.

Here is a similarly marked Pflueger cardboard box in great condition that sold at Lang’s today.
