Why does the image upload tool spin continuously with message processing?

Post by Bud Chaddock »

It used to work fairly fast. Is the board having some problem? Followed same procedure? I did read and follow the advise on page? Nothing has changed on my system?

I advised Matt that folks are reporting issues. It wasn’t clearly stated what this is in connection to so I am assuming picture uploading issues. If you see a picture, it’s working for me.

Bud, it may be that your photos are too large and may need to be reduced. You can usually use what comes on your computer, like Paint, to reduce them. I'm not sure what the process is for a phone.

On an iPhone (iOS13) you can choose the picture file upload size. It is a new option shown on the bottom of the iPhone screen when you select the picture from your iPhone photo library.

There is an administrative tool which will allow Brian or I to assume the permissions of another user and test functions on the board as the other user. I used this and was able to upload images of 2 MB or less. I also used it to upload images of greater than 2 MB and it failed with the symptoms you describe.

If you will email me an image using the Contact Email icon on the board, I will review and test it.

It is possible that certain browser security settings may prevent upload of a file, but we have not seen that. It is always good if you have the capability to test something using Chrome, since that is the browser that has the least issues and is always updated. Some IE11 browsers could have issues, and that browser is losing compatibility with the broader internet in general. But I doubt that is the issue.

I am evaluating enhancements to our image upload functions that would raise the limit on files and do some resizing on the fly and provide better diagnostics. But that will take some time. In the meantime, email any file you have trouble with.

Testing the uploading of 4 photos that Deepfins791 is having trouble with. I see the same issue with 3 of the formats.
No issue

Checking out the other 3 to see what the problem is.

Kevin, you could help by sending me 1 or 2 of the problem images. Obviously, some images upload fine. Many people upload multiple images. Please use the Contact via email link on the right next to this post.

I was having the same problem trying to upload an image from my iPad. I went over to my desktop Mac and it uploaded no problem.

The file size was 800kb.

I did notice that the iPad showed the imagefile extension as .jpeg while the Mac showed it as .jpg

I think I found a work-around. Use Paint to change the file from JPG to PNG.

Same here. I tried a number of times with renaming the file and resizing it. Nothing seemed to work. I change it to PNG, and voila, it worked.

We have updated Reel Talk software to allow 3mb upload and have addressed the formatting issues for those images that people sent me. You should have much better results now. If you still have any issues, please send them to me. We can only fix things that we have examples for. I don’t know of any remaining image upload problems.

Yes, I got a small benchtop wood lathe last Christmas. I joined the AAW and one of the local woodturners guilds but I am mostly learning on my own with online videos. That bowl should be twice the height LOL. My original attempt busted on a final pass but the curly maple looked so good I had to try and recover something. The tiger stripe wood figure in this maple is awesome. I have turned a few little pieces and some pens in wood and acrylic.
