In a discussion on the "General" forum it was concluded this reel is pre-1930 and possibly a special order as it is an uncataloged size ...a 40-yard reel with a spool width of 15/16". The cataloged versions are 60 and 100 yard. The 60-yard reel has a spool width of 1-1/4".
Note the pillars are threaded into the rear plate, not pinned like the cataloged models. Also, the foot lacks a model designation.
I have talked with one other collector that has one, so it is not a one-of-a-kind reel, but certainly rare ...which is not a term I use casually. I know of more Shakespeare "Model A" reels ...and they are certainly considered rare.
Asking $495. All offers considered and replied to. SOLD
Would trade for/towards a small solid nickel silver fly reel, possibly something else. Will consider partial trades of early and tough paraphernalia such as bottles with cork stoppers, pre-1900 casting/angling medals, small leather fly reel cases ...visit my site to see what I collect.
Thanks for looking.
Dean.
