Has anyone seen one of these reels? Who made the X-pert narrow spool? Is there any advertisement of this reel? I know Bronson made an X-Pert-30 for Sears but have never seen any mention of the narrow spool version. Ocean City also supplied Sears with X-Pert models. Just curious of what information you have on this reel. Should it be referenced in the Bronson Site?
Thank you for any information you can provide!

Hey Colby,

Do you have a catalog shot showing what the reel looks like?

Thanks for photos. Is there a date stamped of foot? The regular model, X-Pert 30, carries the same,312.9100, stock number and mine is stamped 38 on the foot as is the on pictured on the ORCA site. Checked library but no 1938 or 39 catalogs.

The pillars are the same as the Veteran Deluxe 1401 narrow spool. The crank handle is different than the regular X-Pert 30, is same as found on many Coxe reels and the Bronson Crusader.

Would be interested in seeing a picture of the tail plate of this reel.

Thanks Colby and enjoy the hunt.

The handle on the reel sure looks it is from a Coxe/Bronson reel. Did Bronson ever make an X-pert?

I don't own the reel in the photos and do not have easy access to it so I really can't answer other questions about it. The photos were provided by the owner. I mainly wanted the photos as proof the reel did actually exist. I have no catalogs with the reel in them. You folks know as much about the reel as I do. Maybe someone else has an example of the reel and would be willing to give you the details you seek.

Good note about the pillars and the Veteran 1401. Those are somewhat unique pillars and are found on the nice 1401 Veteran. I did find a newspaper ad from 1939 that shows a X-Pert reel with those same type pillars. The reel in the ad is however a regular size spool and not a narrow spool.

According to our handy US Trademark database found here on ORCA's website, Trademark 290,127 for X-pert was issued to Sears. It was first used in 1928 and the Trademark was granted in 1931. So the reel was sold by Sears.

I would just like to add one to my collection!!
