Of the ones I have tried, the Heddon rods are excellent. I might ask what weight and reel are you using? If 5/8, you have to select the rod for that. Some of the rods are built for lighter action.

Not what you are looking for but I thought I would take this opportunity to show off a one piece 5 1/2’ split cane bait casting rod I made in 2018 using a taper by the late Gord Duval, a Canadian casting tournament champ. A similar but stiffer rod was auctioned off at the ORCA Convention in Harper’s Ferry. I wanted to make a better casting rod and this is it. This one with the reed wrapped handle casts a mile with my Shakes Marhoff reel although the handle is a bit too thick for comfort.

Well, if you want to step up for a nice one you don’t see often, especially in this condition, here’s a 6’ Phillipson Pacemaker

I also have a 5’ Heddon and 5’ Montague i can show you; nice but downhill from the Phillipson. I will PM you my email and you can follow up, if interested.
