HENDRYX 2906R
With Covid limiting estate and consignment auctions I am going back through earlier purchases and trying to learn a little more about some of my reels. I can not remember where or when I got this reel but it is quite nice and in original box. The reel is a Winchester made Hendryx Double Multiplying Reel , Model # 2906R. I know Winchester purchased Hendryx in 1919 and continued to manufacture reels under the Hendryx label into early 1930s. However I can not find any info on this model. I checed the library but only saw catalogs for Hendryx to 1910. Am I not searching properly? Any help search related or any info on this reel would be appreciated.

Re: HENDRYX 2906R
Thanks Rons
I looked through the 1904 catalog but only found 2906 N. and 2906 P. N., I think this reel is more recent and made by Winchester as the 60 yardage marker on the foot is underlined, from what I have read this was a Winchester thing. Winchester purchased Hendryx in 1919.
I have tried twice to upload photos to this site but not sure successful? I am tech challenged! I am also sending to your personal e-mail, maybe you can get it here or if someone would like to call and walk me through upload process GREAT.
I tried to follow admins directions but I don't have much confidence I was successful. 217-370-0821 Evenings Best!

Oh hey Ron I failed to address your first request of number markings on reel. So here you are. The only markings on the reel other than HENDRYX MADE IN U.S.A., is the underlined 60 on reel foot.

Re: HENDRYX 2906R
If you don't have the date, 1919 is when Winchester took over the Hendryx operation, and an underline on the foot yard-mark is typical for Winchester - they did the same thing on trade reels they produced.

Yes that is where I seem to be in search for info but do not seem to be able to locate any catalogs 1919-1931. I may have to see if I can find it in Merchandisers catalogs . The search goes on!
Thanks

Re: HENDRYX 2906R
I doubt Hendryx printed any catalogs after 1919 although, according to Phil White, Winchester supposedly published a Hendryx catalog in 1928. Your reel was identical to Winchester's No.2290 (branded as a Winchester but which was a standard Hendryx model) and your reel likely would have been supplied to retailers that were not "Winchester Stores". Made in the same New Haven factory, but branded as a standard "Hendryx". Nice combo.

Thanks Mark, I will keep searching for listing and all this info is appreciated. I wish this reel had came from you as I always print a copy of your eloquent descriptions and fold into bottom of box or into binder.

Re: HENDRYX 2906R
Your reel is listed on page 19 in my Winchester/Hendryx 1928 "Catalog E". It is one of the 2900 series, which are "Double Action" reels "With Two Jeweled Oil Caps". The 06 designates it is 60 yards and the R indicates the "Jewelled Oil Caps". The reel listed for $1.85.

Thank You Phil ! This must be a very rare catalog because I have scoured the net and my only rescue has came from this forum. I am the novice but maybe with enough time here I will be able to help others down the road. Thanks again everyone.
