Meisselbach Takapart and Tri-Part
Differences?
-Is the Tri-Part a narrow spool?
-How do the Takapart and Tri-Part compare in casting?

Re: Coxe Takapart and Tri-Part
The Tripart is a narrower spool than the Takapart. It's not considered a "narrow spool" reel, though.

Re: Coxe Takapart and Tri-Part
Thanks, w99. Sure looks narrower than the Takapart.

That's because it is.

Re: Coxe Takapart and Tri-Part
I see. Should be a lighter weight spool, so... shouldn't that qualify? Or is it simply a smaller reel overall?

Re: Coxe Takapart and Tri-Part
Just a scaled-down version of the Takapart. It was an 80-Yard version of the 100-Yard Takapart. Not a narrow spool model.

Re: Coxe Takapart and Tri-Part
I meant Meisselbach of course. Been looking at a lot of reels lately.

Re: Meisselbach Takapart and Tri-Part
@wrong99, is the 480 or 580 the physically larger reel?

The 480 Takapart has longer spool.

Same spool diameter? I can't tell from images.

Same diameter. One holds 80 yards. One holds 100 yards.

Re: Meisselbach Takapart and Tri-Part
OK, I now have both in hand and, yes, they are roughy the same size physically. The 580/581 has a slightly narrower spool. The 480 weighs just under 8oz, the 581 just over. Both appear to perform similarly and both give 16ipt (inches per turn).
