Shakespeare. Should be a triple-multiplier.

Mark, thank you. I cleaned one up today that I had listed as a Shakespeare but than I had second thoughts. I looked in Karl Whites book and saw the same reel listed as a Pennell, but the foot and the stepped screws did not seen correct to me. What other clues should I know. The handle style? Any more input would be great. Always trying to learn more.
Thank you Bruce Harlan

From Shakespeare's 1916 catalog. These were not marked with the Shakespeare name (that I've ever seen), as they were used primarily as Trade reels.

Notice in picture top right, " Multiplying Treble Reels" not Triple Multiplying

There's a difference? Gee, sorry. And it actually says "Treble Multiplying". not "Multiplying Treble".

Mark, would it be safe to say that this is a Shakespeare #22135 made for UTK prior to H-I name change?
Thanks Bruce

The reel doesn't go with that box. If it did, it would have been marked "UTK", which was a trade marked brand name by Horrocks-Ibbotson. I'm not positive Shakespeare ever made any trade reels for H-I. "UTK" was used by Horrocks-Ibbotson from about 1902 to the late 30's. Horrocks-Ibbotson changed their name from Clark-Horrocks in 1910.
