For anyone interested in Paw Paw, I received this information from Doug B., a noted collector of these flies. I thought I would share it and possibly preserve this history for any future Paw Paw researchers.
Regarding the unmarked box:
“This is a great combination to find. The flies were tied by Edith Nieboer from Sparta, Michigan while she was a jobber for Paw Paw from 1928-34. She also had her own company during this same period of time. I call this box the Art Deco period box because of its design elements. Edith sold her company to Paw Paw in 1934 but would stay on as manager for them until 1938. This is when P/P switched to the yellow and white Nieboer box. Paw Paw would carry Edith’s 72 fly patterns into their 1934 Max Sandy catalog. This is just a small part of the entire story.”
I am waiting for some information from Doug (or anyone else) on the second box marked “Deluxe Algoma, Pat. #5.” Thanks.
