How about a 1970’s photo of you?

Post by Mike N »

We are all getting older but when I sent this 1979 photo to Dean Smith and Dr. John Elder, Dean replied, “You had hair?” Heck yes, in the 1970’s we all did.

Post one of your 1970’s self.

A 1970s view of Steve Vernon and the two Jim’s (Brown and Schottenham) would be instant classics, too.

Blonde hair, blue eyes ...and a future reel collector ...you were the complete package Mr. Nogay !

This is me, June 1976 (age 17) at college orientation. The last known picture of me without a beard.

And here I am 3 months later ...

When I came home for Christmas vacation and had forgotten my key to the house, I rang the bell.

When my mother came to the door she said "Can I help you?"

I said "MOM !!"

She almost fainted.

I felt like I was one of the younger guys at the Convention the other week and that kind of concerns me!

I was a little amazed that Brian did not have any grey hair when we met in San Diego. It reminded me that everyone looks young when you are not.

Here is a photo of my Triumph MK3 in 1977, which I managed to total in 1978 after a football game in Bowling Green. I still miss that car. I don't miss the haircut.

As a junior in high school (1979), I took a part-time job at Ellis Hospital, where I'd end up spending nearly three decades - with a short stint at a major ISP company in-between. Talk about hair - I think Bea Arthur would be jealous of this hairdo!

That is amazing, John. I love air rifle. My undergrad alma mater, West Virginia University, is the most successful college rifle program in the United States, winning a total of 19 NCAA national team championships. We have won 25 individual NCAA championships, produced 65 All-Americans, and 13 Olympians. When the university administration tried to cut the program a few years ago, citizens around the state quickly donated enough to fund the program in full.

Lol, Matt.

I helped my brother in law rebuild a Sunbeam Alpine while in high school around 1975. The only bad thing was that we could never quite figure out why the headlights would randomly short out. Needless to say we were always home before the streetlights came on. Typical of that period British electrical systems. Made by the “Rootes Group.”

I love to get old reels, work on them until they run as smooth as silk and the take them fishing using pre-1960 plugs, mostly surface fishing for Largemouths after dark.
