Just picked this up at a friends store and being in possession of many old reels which I use and / or like I sought you good people out for aging and to share.mind you I just cleaned this up it is all as found.it is in great shape and I think pre 1957?based on info given by others.

I only wiped off oxidation cleaned ,lubed,and inspected and learned to reassemble and find lost dog spring ( lost three times ,down on carpet twice and launched across table once) tension headache at midnight last night! But is now ready for service lubed and clean.

I like those 155's too. I have a berkley in the rack that I like to use on occasion as well. Kind of heavy, but it does a good job. You can restore the cork grips fairly easily or replacement isn't too hard either.

The pole is in decent condition,the cork does show age my only beef is the pole is short for surf fishing but i have a longer one in the barn with a Zebco “Tiger” on it I’ll try it on that.

Just started my surf fishing adventures,tried It at Bayhead,NJ and liked it and so it begins,the east coast is my coast as I am familiar with NJ, North Carolina ,a little of Maine I’ve only fished NJ surf so far.Basicly a inland catfish guy branching out.

Gulf coast here. Yes, get a longer rod! 20-30 lb rated, minimum. I like medium action, 8'-10'. I don't like to sling the 12' -13' rods anymore. You'll like that 155 for a while and probably move into a level wind or spinner after you see what others are doing. Have fun and stay warm. Post pics of your catches, please!

it looks later than 1950's. Really hard to tell with a 155, they stayed the same forever. Guess it could be a 1950's reel but the condition makes me feel it is newer. Anyways, I surf fished with a 155 for years. it was my first Penn reel. Keep the sand out of it and you will hand it down to your children. They are great reels.

I agree with Mike. I think that silver dot on the tailplate is for a replaceable clicker spring screw to thread into. A design feature that did not appear until much later
