old Service reel and Alcedo spin reel??
old Service reel and Alcedo spin reel??
Hi guys, A friend has a 1947 Shakespeare service reel , never used, in original box and wrapped in a waxed, parchment like paper. Star drag and level wind. Also he has an Alcedo spin reel. the finish on the reel is a dark green-bownish enameled color. Also the reel has an embossed, kingfisher on the side. Any thoughts on these reels. We were wondering if they are collectable, and/or have any value.? Sure would appreciate your feedback. Thanks, Harry.

Harry, The Service was in the catalogues in the early 50"s. Value depends on who and why someone would want it. There are plenty out there but most have been used. My guess is that even new in the box it wouldn't be over $50.00 if that. I still see guys using them on the piers here in South Florida. You might check the completed sales on E-Bay to see if any have showed up on there.
Hope this helps a little.
