I grew up 25 miles from the Steel City and love its history with Carnegie, Mellon etc. Few non-Pittsburghers know that from 1891-1911 the U.S. Board on Geographic Names made the city drop the “h” from the end of its name. I found this period “no h” snelled hook pack recently and would appreciate any information from our city directory buffs about this tackle merchant, W.S.Brown. Thanks.

Googling “ws brown” Pittsburgh fishing hooks brings up a fair amount, including a digitized book on the brown family history.
