I picked up this rather filthy, but tiny 2” (note: measured at 1-7/8” diameter) hard rubber fly reel.
I asked a favor of Dean Smith - could you clean and salvage this poor relic? And under his skillful hand, out popped a “Julius Vom Hofe, Maker, N.Y.” mark… and the ugly duckling turned into a swan. Another piece of angling history preserved.
