Julius vom Hofe Reel made for Peck & Snyder
Re: Julius vom Hofe Reel made for Peck & Snyder
Cool. Very unusual crank collar and drag button.

That’s quite an unusual stamp, Ron. I’ve not seen it. Here is my 1-7/8” ball handle reel sold by the same retailer. I assume it was also made by JVH and that yours is earlier.

With the knurled screw off bearing cap, that's a pretty good possibility. That's what I would guess. Yours is an earlier model before the perforated hole in the foot. These early tackle houses seemed to stick with their preferred suppliers.

Mike, I like that Squid.
From my website:
The Peck & Snyder business was started in 1869 by Andrew Peck and W. Irving Snyder. Peck previously had a business of making baseballs as Andrew Peck & Co. All kinds of sporting goods were what Peck & Snyder sold. Their baseball equipment, ice skates and tennis rackets were their main products. The business was sold to A.G. Spalding & Bros. in 1894.
Here's an 1877 ad for their fishing book and a 1894 NY Times ad showing Spalding bought them.
