LeVan, let us know if you learn anything about either reel. Those look pretty cool.
I looked at the worldseafishing link. Maybe I overlooked something, but it looks like the Mitchells in the article are completely different than the OP reels. There is mention of AP reels, but all of the pics show the "plastic" Mitchells. What am I missing?
There is an interesting patent by Arthur Prester, assigned to Ocean City. There are also notes in the 1940 census indicating he was in Philadelphia. https://patents.google.com/patent/US2778240

Thank you ! I was just getting some info from a guy telling me that Arthur worked for OC and would make his own reels and stamp them AP . He had heard that he had made a few in the 1930’s . These reels came in a lot with 6 OC reels including a very nice Panama 10/0 and a 500 yd long key
I edited my reply because I had some information twisted
He also patented an automatic center punch, i noticed. I will henceforth think of him every time i see one of those.
His gear patent is kind of neat, in that it entails a modified method of manufacture from existant technology rather than a novel construction per se; similar to inventing say, a new way of making a nut & bolt. Maybe I will play with this someday since I actually happen to own a gear hobber.
It is however unclear what the intended application may be. It would not be used in the multiplier reels the OP has shown here, but perhaps useable in a spinning reel or similar?

I’m sure you seen the information from the other members and I also had a guy get back to me just saying he remembers hearing the story about Arthur Prester who worked for ocean city making reels in the 1930’s of his own and stamping them AP . So all of this info jives up .
I would love to see some pictures if anyone else has any AP stamped reels
