Confessions of a Line Hoarder
I must have saved every line i ever took off a reel that wasn’t rotten, chewed or spliced three times! Anyone have interest in any of this? Some like their reels with (clean) line for display…. Me, not so much
. This but a fraction of it… other pics too big

Hand up ... I'm in the exact same spot as John here. Just could not throw this away! Thoughts on what to do with it all?

You can recycle the mono & flouro at special line recycle stations/bins. NE has them at most every public access. I'd burn the contaminated old Dacron & Nylon in a bucket in the backyard.
You can make a mono bulk storage container out of a plastic tub by cutting an X in the top and waiting till you have enough to justify the trip to a station. Call your local Game & Parks for station locations.

Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

I sent an email to John to get some Cuttyhunk for my line dryer display. I also have a box of mono for recycling. See recycling centers at https://mrrp.myfwc.com/bin-locations/

There is indeed a connection that exists between collecting reels and then hoarding the line that goes on them…

Looking good Mike. Your collection may be unraveling. Or twisted. I will stop pulling on that thread.

I'm the evil guy who emptied spools to use them on my reels - I did keep all the cool spools, and probably used every one of them to prop reels in my display.

That's 4-1/2-lb silk
This combo was made for each other - the aluminum tournament spool with cork arbor

- prewar finesse baitcasting - seriously, it will fish 1/8 oz

That is connected spools of 72-lb cuttyhunk in the front left corner (Ashaway)

Also have a perfect H-I Jamaica squidding rod with reversible blade to match that Oceanic - have just never found the need to take it fishing.
Can't tell you how many damaged silk fly lines I threw away, though every high-grade silk fly line without mildew or damage was sold to someone at a fair price - and I kept just a couple of them, refurbished, and mastic-varnished.

That stuff is sought after by the guys who rig old ship models or pond yachts.

You should plead the 5th while you still can. Someone will still use it in some way.

I wonder how many miles of line I've tossed over the years ?

Dean, so much of it is mildewed, and should be tossed.
