Olympic reel - whats the deal?

This big old bear has me puzzled. Has handles on both sides of the reel? Anyone have any info.

That’s interesting, Gabby! I would assume that the crank side is multiplying… probably 2: or 3:1 and the other side crank would be direct drive at 1:1. Possibly fish 1:1 under the rod and multiplier rings up? Check out the gear ratios and see how it acts!

Agreed. Remove the spool and find the gears.

It also rotates on the foot as a spinning reel?

It took around a century to come up with this "improvement" of a Holding reel.
