Wood Turning

Post by Paul M »

I have been pretty quiet on Reel Talk for a while. During the pandemic I spent most of my free time learning how to turn wooden things. Just having fun. NFS.

I like them all, but the fountain pen is really neat. What type of wood is it?

Thanks

Beautiful work, as always, Paul! Turning is so addictive! It’s such a thrill to put a crude piece of hardwood on the lathe and have some neat piece of art before dinner! You have taken it to high art in an incredibly short time! Enjoy!!

Paul,
you should try your hand at turning a reel. Bet that would be fun.

I did turn a replacement backplate in mahogany for an antique Nottingham reel. I also turned a replacement grasp for a Terry reel. These projects were a little more challenging because in each case I had to achieve correct dimensions in order for the reel to work properly.
