Abu Garcia Cardinal 101

Post by mark bumgarner »

Have a Cardinal 101 that I use to crappie fish and discovered the anti reverse does not work properly all of a sudden. If I keep pressure against the selector lever its fine but if I release it stays in position but does not function. Took reel apart and everything looks fine, springs are in place an seem to be ok. Could it be the one way bearing assembly? I thought not sense it works when I apply pressure. Any Ideas appreciated!

Well I found some info on web. Other folks experiencing the same issue so I did as they did. As I don't free spool when crappie fishing I removed the selector switch and secured the one way bearing assembly yoke to the spring mount stud with a piece of #4 fluorocarbon line. Works !!!! Respooled and ready to go. Not an expensive reel but a good one. I also use a Mitchell 309 on a Wright and Mcgill featherlite and a 309 on a Browning Siloflex light action just to keep me young!
HAVE A GREAT SPRING AND JOYOUS EASTER ALL

Sounds like you got the right rigs. Love that 309 / Silaflex combo.
