Pflueger Summit Patent Numbers

Post by Ed Barrett »

I have a couple of Pflueger Summit reels that show and some that don’t show patent numbers.

Inside the crank side plate of one reel I have I find several patent numbers listed one being 73047.

In Pflueger catalogs numbers 149, 151 and 154 I find this patent number 73047 listed among the others. The number, 73047, is registered with the US Patent Office as being granted to D. D. Robinson on January 7, 1869 for the Wiffletree Hook.

Also noted that Steve Vernon in his book Antique Fishing Reels, he does not list 73047 in his list of reel patents.

Any information as to the aberration of this patent number used by Pflueger on their reel and in their catalog would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Ed Barrett

It's Charles T. Pflueger's design patent for all that wavy engraving on the Summit: 7/12/1927.

When you search on the PO site, stick a "D" in front of the number.

Pflueger Patent Numbers On The Summit

Hi,

By golly you are right on target. By prefixing the patent number with the letter "D" the correct patent comes up regarding the engraving on the reel.

Thank you very much.
