The black outer surfaces of the reel are quite shiny… tis the light that makes it appear the inner faces are shinier.
As to how it happened, picture a mold that has the contours necessary for the clicker face shaped into the “bottom”. A mix including the marbleizing agent was added first and mixed a bit, then the whole thing was topped off with black mud lacking colorant ant left unstirred, creating a black outer surface and marbleized innards. I guess we will be left to speculate as to whether they ran out of colorant on that run and topped off the molds with plain mud or if they did on purpose to create black side plates.
