Help ID reel part

Post by Reelman2 »

I recently acquired a Beetzsell reel and it had this added part on it. It was located on the pillar that is just below the worm gear. So what is it and what is it for?

Collect mostly Ky style reels; Meek, Heddon, Horton, Pflueger Redifor and Worth, etc.

If I remember correctly, the piece held a small brush that could put pressure on the rotating reel spool. John

It held a brush that acted as a brake on the spool flange. Invented by a lawyer who assigned his patent to George Upton, "Redifor Man."
