Ocean City Reel

Post by S-Word »

I just picked up, at a yard sale, an Ocean City Reel. But I cannot find anything on the internet that looks like it.
It says on the (handle side) side plate, "Ocean City", below that "Free Spool" and then below that "German Silver", then below that "Steel Pivot".
On the foot, it looks like it says either OC8 or if I have it upside down it may be 300.
I'd like to know if it worth keeping and what it's worth.
It has a very different handle. No "star" drag. Just the handle with 6 screws around the center and a wooden handle.

You'll find it in the Ocean City Reel Fact page under named saltwater reels. They're in alphabetical order. Without a photo it sounds like the handle/drag combo may be an add on.

Not sure what you mean by "clicked on image upload"? I gave you the link (above) to the Ocean City Home page and explained how to get to the Free Spool model from there.

Those "free spool" reels are similar but none have the same handle.

How do I post a picture so you can SEE what I'm talking about?

Hi, your reel has an aftermarket drag handle. Those screws adjust the pressure on a “sandwiched” drag washer… loose allows the spool to rotate while the handle is held stationary. I’Ve forgotten the maker. The nickel silver will all clean up nicely. The “great sin” is the chip in the side plate above the handle, which keeps it from max value.

Stamp on the foot is “300” , for 300 yard capacity

Thanks. You have been a great help.
There is also a crack in the "non-handle" side plate. :( :(
