Post by reeltackle »

Just wondering if anyone recognize this logo and knew which company it represented.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I don’t recognize the symbol but I will hazard a guess as a company called” Fisher”( a walking FISHER,an animal, similar to a Martin, with company products in hand) outdoor ,hunting or fishing products. Just a guess.

I too guessed an otter, owing to the tail and carrying a fish.

Bingo, IMHO! With that snout, those ears, and allowing for a bit of artistic license...
Some fisher or fisher cat info here and here.
The fisher is North American, so the logo probably is, too, but you would guess that by the reel. Whatever the company, it set a precedent.

Steve,

That video pulls it all together, head, long tail, etc. At first I thought it was bad artistry trying to illustrate some sort of upright polar bear or bearcats.

Now to find a Fisher trademark in those archives or patent history?

I checked with Alan B. On vacation and he indicated it is not a US trademark, at least through 1965

Further from Alan:

“ John,

I was thinking (with a beer in hand) that if the REELTALK chatter about Ed's logo being a Fisher or Martin, both of those mammals range is mostly in Canada. Maybe Paul M. would recognize it.

Steve's fish & hook might be English, Redditch and all.

Cheers,

Fisher's aren't fish eaters. They are terrestrial and arboreal squirrel, porcupine, and marten hunters.

The logo looks British to me, but could have been transplanted to the colonies.

I'd like to see some nice detailed photos of Ed's reel from all angles. Maybe then we could narrow down the possible maker or country of origin.

So I got an e-mail from Martin Rufenacht from Switzerland who informed me that the reel was made by the Flechsenberger, company in Coburg, Germany about 1920. Thanks Martin!

What type of varmint is on the log still up in the air but my money would be on a river otter. He also sent me a picture of one of his reels with the same logo.

Thanks to all who posted both speculative and humorous posts, I love this club!
