I always liked that rope design on that Hendryx model and often wondered how that made it. I assume on the inside of the front cover you can see the depression from the punch into the die.

On pg. 30 of that catalog is a Populo reel clutch description. At page bottom is a list of patents used for H reels, and the May 17, 1892, patent is listed. I used to have a Populo with the rope design (pic below). I don't see the rope pictured in that or the 1907 catalog, either. Hendryx was a thrifty soul; maybe he didn't bother having new drawings done for metal-capped reels that were no different from what was already there, except for the rope-designed headcaps.
