Dating 2 early Pflueger Akron's

Post by Reelman2 »

I have 2 early Akrons that I need to know more about. The first one is an 1893 Satin Finish reel. It says Akron Trade Mark made in USA. I know it is an 1893 as it came in an maroon box that said it was a Satin Finish 1893. The reverse has 6 patent dates and then says patent pending.

The second reel says Akron Trade Mark. The reverse says patented Apr. 3, 1923 other patents pending.

Which reel is older and which is worth more for just the reel. I am guessing the Satin Finish but you tell me.
Collect mostly Ky style reels; Meek, Heddon, Horton, Pflueger Redifor and Worth, etc.

Does that maroon box have the date stamped on the bottom? Like 4/26? e.g.

The first LW Akron was marked PATENTED APR. 3, 1923 over OTHER PATENTS PENDING on end plate. No LW Akrons older than this. Hope this helps.
