Riverboat on the Ohio River

Post by Mike N »

My friend Dennis Jones took these photos this week of the riverboat American Heritage as it passed by my hometown of Weirton WV headed upstream north on the Ohio River towards Pittsburgh PA. The island shown is known as Brown’s Island and the first photo was taken from Williams Golf & Country Club. That’s Steubenville OH on the western side of the river. The boat later passed through the New Cumberland WV locks on the Ohio.

Always great to see the vintage steamboats still active on the Ohio and Mississippi. My favorite of course is the Belle of Louisville which runs all summer from the river road wharf in downtown Louisville, and races each year at the Ky Derby festival.
