Identify my mentors reel

Post by cudacurl »

Good evening. I have recently been gifted an old overhead reel from my mentor, recently passed. It is need of a clean and maintenance. but there is little problem that there is no drag working . If I open it up, I will not have a clue how it goes together properly.
The reel has an embossed logo of a pike jumping and a fisherman. If anyone can identify this reel, so I can research how it goes together I would be seriously grateful.
Cheers

Have you tried turning the star drag under the handle in a clockwise direction? If the star has been completely turned in the counterclockwise direction there would be no drag.

The drag is fully engaged and makes no difference to when it is zero drag.

It looks like a clone of a Penn Long Beach 60. Maybe made in Japan? Might say so on the bottom of the stand if you remove it from the rod.
As far as the drag goes, the clutch may not be fully engaged, causing the pinion gear to not engage the spool, essentially in freespool all the time.
If you want me to look at it for you I’d be happy to.

Thanks all for the replies. It is indeed a Japanese Penn 60 Long Beach Clone and I have found a fantastic guy on You tube for a resto. I will let you all know the outcome of the restoration once complete.
