Pretty great, I have never seen that club. I have seen most Ky ephemera. Good to see something new.

Note that the K.F.&G. Club was womanless. Ironically, "The first women were admitted as students in the early 1890s, a pioneering step for Kentucky Wesleyan College, which became one of the first institutions of higher learning in the Commonwealth to permit co-education."

A quick trip to Danville on my private jet, a brief chat with the local librarian, a rapid canvassing of the local Pearces, a quick interview in the dean's office at Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro, and back home in time for dinner and posting. All in a day's sleuthing.How do you find this information?

According to Ridenour, Hugh, "The Greens of Falls of Rough: A Kentucky Family Biography 1795-1965" (1996). Masters Theses & Specialist Projects. Paper 3039 at 105;
https://digitalcommons.wku.edu/theses/3039, The Kentucky Fish and Game Club constructed a clubhouse at Falls of Rough, Kentucky.

Good find, cw. I went to that Masters theses and found this in Chapter 9, page 105, citing footnote 11. The “clubhouse at the Falls” was apparently built by March, 1893.cwfly-2 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 11:36 am According to Ridenour, Hugh, "The Greens of Falls of Rough: A Kentucky Family Biography 1795-1965" (1996). So, who was Louisville businessman and club founder Mr. J. Fry Lawerence, who signed Dean’s document above as club president and whose March 23, 1893, letter to “LG” (Lafayette Green) was apparently original source material for this masters theses research?

As early as 1867, J.Fry Lawrence was a director of Southern Life Insurance Co., which likely later gave him the time and wherewithal to found a sporting club.
The Security Insurance Company of Kentucky, with an office in the U.S. Hotel block, corner of Fourth and Jefferson Streets, listed its officers as J. Fry Lawrence, president; N.C. Hildebrand, vice president; W.H. Dedrick, secretary; C.C. Spencer, treasurer; and G.L. Chapman and G.H. Burghardt, general agents. [Louisville Daily Courier, December 27, 1866; reprinted in KY Ancestors, Autumn 2003; tr. by C.S.]
[
Mr. Lawrence was earning an annual salary of $1500 a year in 1868. Not too shabby in a border state immediately after the Civil War, If I was a betting man, I’d wager there’s a Meek or Milan reel out there somewhere with JFL’s owner’s name on it.
