Help identifying this brass/wood early fly reel

Post by Thehorseman »

Looking for some help with a maker, year and value of this nice reel. The handle is spring loaded and to reel you lock it in one of the open holes. Very smooth so it’s built very well. Never seen these kind of bolts before.

Nifty reel! Because it's a variation of a Nottingham, I suspect it's British. Our esteemed editor has an article on an American, side-mounted, multiplying, wooden reel that also requires pushing a handle pin into a hole like that to crank the reel.
