Reel Identification

Post by clacker39 »

Hi Members
I would very much appreciate if someone may be able to shed some light on this reel that I recently purchased.
It measures 5" across the headplate with a spool width of 4 1/4"
It has parts that were used on Ocean City reels and I am wondering if it someway connected.
I have attached some pic's that may assist.Kind Regards

The free spool lever looks like an Ocean City part but the spool, lugs and star look like they are from a Pflueger Templar. Pretty sure this was a home made reel. Would love to see what it looks like on the inside.

Got a spare reel stamped "Pflueger" or a Montague Imperial?

It's an Australian version of an Ocean City big game reel... At first glance I was thinking Samson but the foot and drag say 1 off... A couple years ago there was a very similar reel posted here from Europe but the difference was it had a stamp he was familiar with. It too had the free spool pull out like Ocean City but was heavily chrome plated....still a neat piece. Tight lines Nick n NY

Thank you all for your input.
I will over the next few days dismantle the reel to see what the internals reveal.
As Nick has indicated it may well be a homemade project, however it is very well done.

I have been able to identify the reel as an Australian made Tarpon Minor.
Spent some hours cleaning the reel today and it is coming up nicely.
I will post some pic's when I have it apart.
Thank you all for your assistance.
Cheers Bob
