Age of Shakespeare Reel

Post by Eastfork »

I have a Shakespeare 1094 and want to know its age. I have seen some very infornative comments on this website which
explain how to relate the last 2 digits of the reel number to its year of manufacture. My question is where is the reel number located ? Thanks

Beginning in 1932, Shakespeare added model letter designations for the model change year.

Searching Shakespeare Code on this forum should turn up a lot.

e.g., Model HF on this Shakespeare 1900 denotes 1935 model year.

The Shakespeare 1094 came in two varieties that I know of. One looked like the Pflueger 1494 and one was rimless like the Cortland Rimfly. Both were made in China and came in a blister pack. The first was made after the Anthony Industries acquisition of Shakespeare which puts it around 1980’s, the other one from around 2000 to present. There is no date code on those reels.
