Coxe 25: What do you make of this?

I have two Coxe 25-2's. Or so say the feet. Check out the LW worm gear on each. One is fine threaded, the other coarser. Also see the corresponding line lay. The finer is even, the coarser is humped in spool center. Both cast well. Why was this done? Does one pre-date the other?
