I am trying to determine a value for a Shakespeare Level Winding Reel # 3 series B with jewel movements in perfect working order with all parts, and leather case all in very good condition serial # 5214. Any help would be appreciated.
The leather case is in very good shape and lined with chamois leather. The reel would clean up nicely as there is not much corrosion. It's interesting that there is a "jewel cap Bearing" for the main shaft cap. There is not a spec of plastic, other than the handle, on this and no brass or other metals showing through.
In excellent condition these usually seem to sell in the $250 to $300 range. This example appears to be a notch or two short of excellent condition, so I'd estimate about $150 to $200. Of course, I'm not the resident Shakespeare expert, so hopefully others will weigh in if I am off the mark.
I agree with Bill - missing a side plate screw and some active corrosion on the handle and side plates means the plated finish is shot on those spots. Still a very cool reel in that price range.
