No so old Shimano Calais 200A

Post by Stunt Fisher »

I inherited my dad’s Shimano Calais 200A, which he purchased new in 2006. It was a great reel for him and has served me well for most of the last 10 years. I've replaced bearings and other parts a few times over the years. Last year it started vibrating as I reeled in the line. Long story short, I found wear on the brass drive gear, which I believe is causing the vibration, and would like to replace it and the pinion gear. For those of you with schematics, the parts are numbers 2138 and 2163 on the Shimano drawing. I looked online for replacement parts and those are now obsolete.
My questions for the group are, are there other reels with this same gear under a different number? Do you know of a source for new replacement gears? Am I out of luck?
The reel is shelved for now, but I’d sure like to use it again.
Thanks!

Below is a link to some links ORCA has on this site for folks who do reel repair and are goods sources to try for discontinued parts.

Good luck on your part search endeavor, Shimano has become famous for not providing a source for repair/replacement parts. It's part of their marketing plan, make parts obsolete so the reels can't be repaired and you have to buy a new one.

Contacted Dick's Repair and Mat's Repair, both responded right away. Mat had both items in stock so I bought from him. Parts will be on the way soon.
Great service from both. Mat had the parts on the shelf.
Each were one of us ORCAns (is that a word?). I would absolutely recommend either.
Thanks for the suggestions!
