Ocean city/true temper 610b reel

Post by Peyton »

I recently purchased an ocean city/true temper reel. The side plate says 610b. I haven’t been able to find any reels with the same numbers and letter yet. I plan on using it for shark fishing, unless it’s rare or worth anything. Anyone know about these reels and how much they sell for?

I've fished with the 4/0 size reel in that series and would say it be worthwhile to get a newer, better performing reel. The bakelite ended up cracking around the bushings after a nice sized GT or jack. Even a Penn 9/0 or 12/0 would perform better in my opinion. As for value, Ocean City collectors might pay $75-$100, depending on the mood of the day. Your reel looks to be in pretty decent shape with lighter use so might be worthwhile to keep it that way.

Got a spare reel stamped "Pflueger" or a Montague Imperial?

The True Temper version of the OC big game reels is worth less than the original versions made by Ocean City. Yours is a 10/0 size, which did not last long under the True Temper name, by the 1960's the 10/0, 14/0 and 16/0 had been phased out by True Temper. I have no idea what the "B" means. It is a True Temper marking. Could designate the brass material the spool is made from.

It is a collectible, I would display it, rather than fish it. There are so many better reels to use. IMHO
mike cass,,, if you can't collect it, it must be food
