Help with ID fly reel

Post by 40fordflathead »

Looking for some help with ID on this reel. It is 4 1/4” dia spool is 1 3/16” body is milled bar stock. The drag system works quite nicely. I have big hands, my fingers would be a bloody mess trying to bring in a big fish with the handle knobs so close to the drag adjustment mechanism. If it was home made it was very well thought out and built, except for the bloody knuckles.

Bruce, i had hoped someone would come along with insight into your reel, but no one came! I have never seen another like it and as most of the time with such reels, i’m left to think its a nicely made one-off. The main thing that makes me think that is the generic screws and nuts hardware. I can’t tell from the pics how you access the back snd drag mechanism. It doesn’t look like a quick breakdown setup. The size of the reel and sturdy drag makes me think the fellow at least had salmon in mind, if not bigger fish. Do the plastic parts look molded or cut? Can you ID the material used for the latter? There are, of course, lots of plastic gears to be had, from various non-reel items, so would not necessarily have been made just for this reel. Is finish anodized or painted?

John, thank you for the reply. It is not a fast take down. First remove the four little slotted screws on the handle assembly, than unscrew the Nylon drag adjuster and the spool with shaft come off the body. All what I assume Nylon parts are cut not molded. The finish appears to be a tinted clear lacquer.
