1. Who is the "Michigan man" mentioned in this paragraph from the Cayuga Chief, July 22, 1899?

2. Who is the "Marylander" mentioned in this paragraph from the Geneva Gazette, Feb. 22, 1899?

I don't know who either of the men are but I would sure would have liked to have fished with the Marylander. What could be finer and more rewarding than sitting under a tree and having your fish come flying up onto the bank. Just think, if you could get the trajectory right, you could have a fire burning with a hot skillet on it up on the bank and have your "catch" plop right into the skillet ... instead of calling it lunch you could call it launch .... the only difference would be the added "aaaaaaaaa" you let out when your fish comes screaming out of the water. :loco:

Steve,
I emailed you my guess. All I'll add here is that I think both inventors have the same first name - Charles.

...when your fish comes screaming out of the water.
Many years ago, when my young sons and I were fishing on Bristol Pond, Vermont, a hooked pike leaped over the bow of the canoe into my elder son's lap. Guess who did the screaming.

P.S. Jim is correct. :cool
