Goofy patents

Post by Jason »

This looks like it was invented by Wile E. Coyote. I love the tiny cannon.

Unlike Crepin and Rochat, Laban Lewis, noted reelmaker, was more of a nature lover. He patented this gizmo that fired cartridges at regular intervals "for scaring persons and animals off of fields, gardens, houses, &c." His litigious neighbors forced him to provide them all with earmuffs.

Tommy, you're talking to the wrong Feds. You could even use the Crepin & Rochat cannon if you use fish for bait.
To assist fish farmers, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued a Cormorant Depredation Order which is in effect for 13 states. This order allows for the controlled harvesting (shooting) of cormorants that pose an immediate threat to a farmer’s livelihood. For the private landowner, the best tactic is to harass the birds until they leave and go to another lake. This can be done by using fireworks or special noisemakers called “bird bangers.” These can be purchased from the Reed-Joseph Company in Greenville, Mississippi. If all else fails, landowners can contact the USDA’s Wildlife Services and request a permit to shoot the birds. - https://www.mossyoak.com/our-obsession/ ... -your-fish

Those 13 states are all down south. Sure doesn't do us middle of the continent & northerners much good. The COs know they're devastating but they watch that migratory bird regulation pretty darn close. :(
