Penn 707 Emblem
Penn 707 Emblem
Does anyone know a way to safely remove tarnish(corrosion) from a Greenie Cover Plate Emblem without damaging the surrounding Green paint?
Thanks

Carefully surround the emblem with painters blue or green (Gator) tape. Then use a light polishing compound and a soft bristle toothbrush to remove the compound. I do it all the time with no issues.

Thank you Tommy! Can you suggest or tell me the Brand of Light Polishing Compound that you use?

Re: Penn 707 Emblem
I start with Dupont Clearcoat Polishing Compound. If that doesn't do the job I move to some old Dupont Chrome Polish I still have, or Brasso, Flitz or Simichrome. I've used them all at different times. I've never had problems with any of them.

Re: Penn 707 Emblem
What do you think Tom, this is the Penn 707 I just picked up for a very good Price but the Emblem has some corrosion. I don't know if I should try to remove the corrosion or not, the paint on the Cover Plate and the Reel itself is in pretty good condition for the age and rarity. Do you think it is worth trying to remove the corrosion or maybe I should just wait and maybe a Penn 707 Medallion will pop up somewhere, they are scarce though.
Thanks

I clean all mine when I service the reel, but that's just me. That verdigris & gunk serve no positive purpose at all. Start lightly & get a little more aggressive if you need to, just be careful. Those 707 medallions are like trying to find hen's teeth.

Looks pretty dang good!
You can protect it with a light coat of water based urethane if you want to keep it looking like that or leave it natural & open so it will tarnish & darken. I prefer the bright look, myself.

Thanks Tom! Tom, would you possibly no anyone who would want to part with a Good Conditioned Penn 707 Box? I am looking for a Home for my Penn 707 Reel I just picked up. I did Post the question on the Wanted Post but have not received any Replies yet. I know they are Rare like the Reel but I figure I ask, you never know.
Thanks

Those wrong handed
reel boxes are tough to come by. I've been looking for a 705 box for a couple of years to no avail. Keep your eyes open on eBay. You can set your search to notify you if one pops up.
